The summer spent by the cattle in the mountains traditionally closes with the ‘’Almabtrieb’’. After around a hundred days spent in the alps, the cows are brought back to their stables down in the valley. If there were no major accidents when the cows were enjoying the free mountain life, they are decorated with colourful garland and head dresses. The Bavarian and Tirol region are very catholic and to show their praise for God, they carry symbols of crosses and saints in thanks for the safe keeping of the cows during the summer. This is a every year a event and traditionally happens in the middle of September.
